X Games... trend busting... hanging out and just being cool got a literal "momentum" boost from surprising corners, namely footwear. And this latest fashion moves are not simply about racy colors or mix-and-match materials. No longer merely trend-setting personality-distinguishing fashion statements, casual "sports shoes" are literally building-in new sport possibilities into the heel of the shoe.

What's going on is movement. Next, lubricating bearings is a simple matter of buying a small can of machine oil, like white lithium. A few squirts, rub it in, and your wheels are ready for re-installing.

What Is the Ice Skating Institute (ISI)?

ISI is for the recreational ice skater that is looking to learn and have fun. Everyone has to start somewhere. Olympic skaters such as Dorothy Hamill, Scott Hamilton, Kristi Yamaguchi, Alisa, Czisny, and more, all participated in the ISI programs when they first started to skate. Ice skating offers both emotional and physical health benefits and is a great way to get in shape while having fun. When you become a member of the ISI, you enter the magical world of skating.

When you become a member of the ISI you become a part of the largest recreational ice skating organization in the world. You then have the opportunity to participate in their successful learn-to-skate programs that are for every age and every ability. You even have the opportunity to earn achievement patches when you test your new ice skating skills in their ISI testing programs. Your membership will allow you to compete in the many local, district, and national competitions and shows that they host. In addition, to all those things, you will also receive excess accident insurance with your paid membership which is a nice thing to have. So lace up your skates and hit the ice and learn how to ice skate in their "weSKATE" program.

The ISI offers a recreational learn-to-skate program they call "weSKATE". Their learn-to-skate programs have been around for many years and have proven successful. Their "weSKATE" program is for all ages and ability levels and you can find skaters from the ages of 2 up to 92 participating in the programs. The program is broken down into levels that let you learn skills, test those skills, and move on to the next level. The levels of their program are "Tot 1-4, Pre-Alpha, Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, Freestyle 1-10, Open Freestyle (Bronze/Silver/Gold/Platinum), Couple 1-10, Pair 1-10, Dance 1-10, Free Dance 1-10, International Dances, Figure 1-10, Special Skater 1-10, Hockey Skating 1-5, and Hockey Skills 1-5." As you can see, there are not only many different levels but also different disciplines of ice skating to learn including Ice Dance and Hockey. So now that you are having fun learning and testing your new ice skating skills, perhaps you're starting to get the competitive itch or maybe you are ready to show off what you have learned to your friends and family.

What Is the Ice Skating Institute (ISI)?

Being a part of the ISI you are eligible to participate in the many ISI sanctioned local and district competitions as well as 6 national competitions each year. They even offer collegiate skating. At each competition each skater will be placed in an event group based on age and ability levels. It is not so much about being competitive and winning as it is about meeting fellow skaters, making new life long friends, seeing new places, being part of a team, and having fun all at the same time. When you participate in an ISI competition you not only have an opportunity to earn medals or awards as an individual but you earn points as a member of your ISI team.

Whether your interest is figure skating, ice dance, or hockey you can learn new skills, earn achievement patches, and compete as an individual and part of a team. Sagging Boobs! Why and What You Can Do to Help!

Saggy Boobs! Is It Inevitable? The Why and the Ways You Can Help Your Boobs Stay Young!

Are you boobs losing their perkiness? Is gravity your enemy? Do your breasts point south? Are you aging gracefully? How are your genetics? Does your mother sag? What can you do? Why the sag? Breasts do not have muscles. They have ligaments, connective tissue, fat, and of course outside skin. Gravity pulls down the ligaments and skin can stretch which leads to sagging. Heavy breasts create a more gravitational pull creating more dropping. Gaining and losing weight helps some breast fat disappear; however, skin and ligaments do not retract accordingly which leads to sagging. With normal aging, we loose elasticity of ligaments and skin; therefore, our girls go south. With normal aging, we also have increased softening of breast tissue which lead to breast sag. Pregnancy also helps increase our chances of sagging earlier. Our boobs get heavier, creating more gravity and lose of elasticity. More pregnancies increase the chances of boob droopiness. Plus after weaning a baby, milk-making systems in the breasts shrink because they are not needed anymore. This creates more sag.

Sagging Boobs! Why and What You Can Do to Help!

What can we do to stay perky? Face it, there is not a lot we can do to prevent sagginess; however, we can prolong our youthful boobies. Diet is a plus. Try to maintain your weight. If you gain and lose weight, you start to droop quicker. You can also help your skin keep it's elasticity through proper diet. Vitamin C, Omega 3 oil, and Flax oil do wonders for skin elasticity. Do not smoke. Smoking takes away from skin elasticity. Maintain your exercise throughout your life in order to prevent a yo-yo weight effect.

Plastic surgery and botox can do a short term fix. Short breast lift will prevent sagging in the short term. With surgery, there are always health risks. Botox, short for Botulinum toxin, can be injected into pectoral muscles. It raises the breasts by forcing the shoulders back and improving posture. It does not have the dangers of surgery but the long term side effects are unknown because it is poisonous in high doses.

The easiest way and best way to prolong the sagging is with a bra. A good supportive bra is a must. Wearing a bra counters the gravitational effect. Bras hold the breast tissue and ligaments in place. The band and the straps provide the support needed to keep some breast weight from pulling downward. It is especially important to wear a good fit bra for big busted women. Big boobs create more weight on the breast tissue and ligaments. A supportive bra prevents those girls from pulling and jiggling. Sports bras are a must for high-impact activities. A proper sports bra can prevent the ligaments from stretching out during high impact activities. Bras are your friend. They will help delay the inevitable droop (flat-chested excluded). Make sure they fit well and provide the support needed for the activities you are engaged in.

Some people ask about wearing a bra when you sleep to prevent sagging. There are opposing views on this theory. Some believe that the bra industry invented this ideas to sell more bras. Several models wear bras in the sleep. They believe it will help preserve shape and perkiness. Most scientists believe it makes no difference whether you wear a bra to bed or not in regards to sagging. When you sleep, you are not moving very much and there is less gravitational pull. Many say to go braless when you sleep to allow for circulation and easy breathing. If you decide to wear a bra when you sleep, at least wear a soft cup bra. Any idea to prevent sagging is worth a try.

Sagging is a fact of life for almost all women at some point during their lives. Pregnancy, weight fluctuations, genetics, breast size, improper fitting bras, diet, and the softening of breast ligaments and the loss of breast tissue with age are some of the main reasons. You can choose to accept your droopy breasts along with wrinkles and gray hair or you can fight. You can do steps to preserve your perkiness. These steps include wearing proper fitting bras, maintaining your weight, trying supplements, and possibly using the help of a doctor. Let your boobs stay young as long as possible. Let them stand up for you. Put off the saggy boobs for as long as possible.

Modeling is one of the most challenging careers for people. It will require one to be perfect at all times, and there can be a lot of rejection before finally having that dream career. Models are always required to be thin and tall. If one doesn't have those qualities, it will be impossible to even dream of modeling. Moreover, being tall and thin is not all there is. One is required to present their selves in public. Not all models are just tall and thin. There might be also available jobs for people of different sizes. The problem about models is that they try to be perfect at times, and as we all know, perfection is a very complicated thing. Models hear a lot of disappointments all the time if they are being commented with their weight, their height, and way of projecting themselves and so on.

The very reason most people wants to be models is because of the high pay. We can see top models being rich and famous. But if we take a closer look, we might even reconsider it. It is really a pretty difficult career if you are not yet that famous.

Models must always maintain their thin figure. They need to be thin, but healthy at the same time. People say that models barely eat. Well, they do eat. But they take proper care of their bodies and try to control gaining weight. That is why most models try to go through extreme dieting in order to have that perfect figure.

If one wants to go for modeling, they need to move all the way to New York. There are lots of modeling works here compared to other places.

Fun, Fun, Fun: The Best Exercises for Quick Weight Loss

The best exercises for quick weight loss in my opinion are activities that you enjoy because you will be more apt to continue doing them over a long period of time.

Many people think that starting an exercise program will mean months of agony in front of them. However, staying active and being physically fit can and should be fun!

If you vary your exercise routine by choosing activities that you really enjoy, you will be more likely to stick with it. Don't forget that movement doesn't have be done in a gym, it can be done by adding new activities or bumping up the intensity, or adding extra steps to almost anything you are doing.

Fun, Fun, Fun: The Best Exercises for Quick Weight Loss

The benefits of exercise and being active include: increased muscle tone, weight loss, stress relief, an increase in personal satisfaction, and of course it will improve your inner body as well. (heart, lungs, and circulation)

My recommendations for the best exercises for quick weight loss include:

Dancing: Invite a few friends to go out for a night of dancing. A person weighing 180 pounds can burn approximately 193 calories after dancing at a night club for 30 minutes. Last year I took a country line dancing class which I enjoyed tremendously and I felt the health benefits almost immediately.

My friend's daughter who is now in her 20's has signed up to take ballet classes for the first time in her life. If ballet or line dancing isn't your style look for dance classes and clubs in your community to include: hula, belly dancing, tap, jazz, modern, ballroom dancing, Irish step dancing, and square dancing. Dancing is a "feel-good" activity that is perfect for all body types and ages.

Bicycling: You can see how much fun it is to ride a bike by watching children at play. They race, set up obstacle courses, and go over jumps. I am not suggesting that you have to "pop wheelies" again like you might have done in your younger days but it might be time to add bicycling to your regular work out routine. Biking is a wonderful family activity; in fact your kids will be thrilled if you suggest a "family bike hike" this upcoming weekend.

Golf: Ditch the golf cart and walk the course to reap the benefits of this wonderful sport!

Hiking: Hiking in the woods is one of my all-time favorite exercise activities. It allows you to enjoy nature and a 180 pound person will burn approximately 257 calories per half hour of trekking through the woods.

Gardening & Yard Work: Pushing a lawn mower around the yard, pulling weeds, trimming the hedges, raking leaves, and chopping wood are among the many calorie burners you can do in your yard. This is a win-win activity: a beautiful yard and a healthier you!

Racquet Sports: Grab a racquet and hit the courts! You can burn approximately 300 calories playing racquetball or tennis.

Skating: When was the last time you laced on a pair of skates? Rediscover this winter time activity and bring a child along for extra fun! This made me think of sledding. Wow, imagine the calories burned when you walk your sled back up the hill!

The list of fun exercise activities can go on and on. Try some to figure out which are your personal best exercises for quick weight loss...you might be surprised at how much fun exercise can be!

The most important aspect of hockey except scoring, is skating. Knowing hockey skating drills is very important for anyone who might want to try out the game of hockey. Here are some hockey skating drills that you can use to better the technique of your skaters.

Power start drill

This hockey skating drill will teach skaters how to have fast powerful starts. The drill is to have a player pull another to the red line. Player 2 holds player 1 by the jersey. Player 1 takes 5-6 strides or until he reaches the red line to come to a gliding stop. Each player that is being pulled should do this 5-6 times before switching places.

First, you must divide all players in groups of 3 players each. Each player will skate from the blue line to the middle red line and back again twice with full speed. The next players repeat what player 1 did, and this goes on for 4 minutes.

4 stop drill

Players form a line at one end of the rink. Player 1 takes off clockwise and skates to each of the four face- off marks, power stops, looks up and waves at the coach. After all four marks are hit, player one skates back in line behind the rest as player 2 takes off and so on. The drill is repeated 4-5 time without stopping.

Piranha pivot

Starting at one end of the rink, Player 1 skates full speed to the blue line, then pivots and skates backwards to the second blue line, pivots again and skates to the other red line and goes behind the net, pivots again, skates backwards until the second blue line, pivots again to reach the end of the rink where he started.

Russian circles

Players skate in a single file around the 5 face-off circles with a puck.

Skate figure 8

You must place four cones on the back face-off dots. Players must skate in a figure 8 pattern around the goal outside the cones. Once they pass the goal, they must sprint, pass the cones and skate to the other end.

Snow cone drill

Players are divided into two groups and are put in opposing corners. A cone is put at the blue line. Both teams must skate to the blue line with a hard stop, pivot and skate backwards to the starting point.

The dots

Separate the players to make two groups and put them on opposite sides. At the same time, make them skate to the dots in a zig zag manner so that they will cross each others path. They will make a full stop at each dot until they reach the other end of the rink.

Chasing the wind

The players will line up side by side on the blue line. When the coach blows the whistle, they will skate the second blue line and stop. The coach will blow his whistle again and the players will skate to the red line in the middle. The coach will blow the whistle again and the players will skate to the blue line where they started. This is good for cardio, starting, and stopping. As minutes pass, the coach will make the players go faster by decreasing the stop time at each line.

The hockey skating drills found above are good for beginners and more advanced player. Coaches and players must always remember that you cannot reach the net to score if you do not first know how to skate.

Figure Skating Jumps

Jumps are part of the routine of advanced ice skaters. These are evaluated by the take off and the number of rotations made in the air. There are two familiar types of figure skating jumps, and these are toe jumps and edge jumps. Edge jumps originate from the edge of the blade, while the toe jumps originate from the toe picks, and are actually edge jumps assisted by the toes of the opposite foot.

There are two edges for ice skate blades; the inside and the outside edge. Before you take off to do a jump, you will need to decide first whether you will use the right or the left foot, going forward or backward, and using the inside or the outside edge. Thus, one jump may be described as right forward inside, left forward outside, depending on how you plan to jump.

The correct positioning of the body prior to a jump has to be maintained, because any mistake in positioning makes a big difference with the jump, and the consequent landing. There is a greater chance for a fall or for a mistake while doing the jump when the starting position is not right.

Figure Skating Jumps

There are various jumps that can be done in figure skating. The first is the Bunny Hop Jump, which is the easiest to do because it is performed without rotating. To do this jump on the right foot, weight is first placed on the right foot, with the right arm to the side and the left arm in front of the skater. The skater then takes off using the left foot and finally lands on the right skate toe pick and the left foot.

The next jump is called Waltz Jump, and is one of the first jumps usually learned by beginning figure skaters. It takes off with a forward outside edge. The skater then does a half revolution jump, and lands on the opposite back outside edge. It is started by doing backward crossovers for impetus, stepping on the left foot, bending then extending both legs for the jump, lifting off from the left toe pick, doing a half revolution, and landing on the right back outside edge.

There is also a jump called Loop Jump, starting with a right back outside edge, doing one revolution, and ending also with a right back outside edge, in contrast with Waltz Jump, which lands on the opposite foot and does only a half revolution. While in the air, the arms are into the chest and the legs crossed in the Loop Jump. You can do a half loop, double, triple, or quadruple loop jumps, depending on your skills as a figure skater.

There are many other figure skating jumps available, such as the Toe Loop Jump, which is essentially a loop jump but with the assistance of the left toe to leap into the air, and the Walley Jump, which takes off from the right back inside edge, features one revolution in a counterclockwise manner, and lands on a right back outside edge of the same foot. Other jumps in figure skating include Toe Walley, Lutz, Salchow, Flip, and Axel Jump. Each of these jumps has the potential to injure, because jumps are intrinsically dangerous to perform. It is a figure skating technique that needs to be perfected and be taught by a professional figure skater. The skater is also required to wear protective gear when in training so as to avoid injury as much as possible.

How should you dress for professional / amateur Ice Skating Contests?

Ice Skating Dresses - What to Wear When You Go Skating

1) When it comes to your ice skating outfits; you must consult with a dressmaker before purchasing your competitions clothing. Your dressmaker can tailor-make, cut, color and textile to your own specifications and tailor-make your dresses and outfits to best fit your needs for both practice and competition.

2) You have to ensure that you don't spend your hard earned money on cheap ice skating tights, always ensure that you buy 'ONLY' top quality tights for your practice skating sessions and competitions. High quality tights ensure that you always stay warm and they won't tear if you slip or fall during a training session or routine.

3) Always have more than one or two training outfits. Preferably have four to five sets including Ice Skating Dresses and Quality legging. For male skaters ensure that you have substantial stocks of fitted tops and leggings to wear.

4) You must ensure that your competition blades have been re-sharpened prior to the event or competition. 1) Don't make the mistake of wearing bulky and thick clothing, you will overhead after a short period on the ice. The secret to staying warm is to wear thin layers of clothing, so as you skate you will gradually warm up even though it may feel a rather chilly when you first start off on the ice.

2) Ensure that your are wearing long trousers and long sleeves to cushion against any minor fails but also to ensure that your stay warm during your skate.

3) It's always a good choice to also take a pair of gloves with you as you would if you went out during the winter months. This protects your hands when skating and stops the dreaded icy fingers.

4) Ensure that if you have long hair that you tie it back. You hair could get could up in some one skates if you fall or simply obstruct your view as you skate. You could also wear a hat which will also help to keep your head nice and cosy as well as help to keep your hair out of your face.

5) If you taking young children skating you should dress them with extra padding style clothes and possibly even elbow pads and a protective helmet.

6) if you do not like wearing a woolly hat for you fun skating session then it may be worth considering taking some ear muffs along with you to keep you ears nice and warm as you skate. You can find these in a variety of jazzy colours and pattern and you will find a pair to suit your personality. If I can then you can also.

2. Pottery Making Party - Pottery painting parties at a local pottery place are all the rage. Many pottery places allow you to rent a private room for the birthday party where the kids get to make and take their own personalized plate or bowl. Normally, they provide a lifeguard and staff who keep an eye on the kids and run games such as water ring tosses. Normally, they'll have a party room that is adjacent to the changing areas/restrooms where you can set-up decorations, snacks and cake.

5. Gymnastics Party - Try the local Gymnastics Academy to see what they offer. Often you can get some time for the kids with an instructor and then some time after for food and gifts.

6. Dance Party - Throw your own diva dance party at home or find a local dance studio that offers birthday parties for kids. The kids are transformed into dance divas and rock stars by doing their hair with brightly colored hair pieces, glitter and braids and then adding some cool make-up like sparkly glitter eyes, blush and lip gloss. Depending on the party music theme, you can have the party girls singing and dancing to your birthday girls favorite music or dances like the electric slide, freeze dance, etc. If you are having it at a studio, normally they will have karaoke microphones, lots of music to choose from and props for the kids. Be sure to videotape their performances!

Off-Ice Training For Figure Skaters - Why, What, When, and How?

Off-ice training is a much buzzed about topic in the world of figure skating. Many skaters do it, many coaches and trainers teach it, but do people really know how the details of how it should be done, and what it really is? A parent may see an ad for an off-ice class and sign up for it per recommendations of the skater's coach, yet does that parent really know what the skater is doing in that class? After reading this article, you will have a better understanding of the proper forms of exercise, how often exercise should be done, who should instruct the exercise, and why off-ice training exercises are important.

WHY should a skater do exercises off-ice?
Figure skating is a sport that puts significant strength and flexibility demands on the body. Athletes in other sports may say that figure skating is not a 'sport', and it is more artistic performance, but they are quite wrong! Skaters are some of the strongest athletes in the world. I can recall a Sports Physical Therapy class I attended in college in which a strength and conditioning coach took us through some difficult training exercises. Out of 45 or so people, I was the only one who could do a one-legged squat! His response was, "Oh, of course, you're the figure skater."

Figure Skating

Some skaters have natural strength, balance, and core strength that will take them through the lower levels of skating quickly, but the majority of skaters need to improve upon each of those attributes in order to progress to higher levels. Once the 'naturally talented' skaters reach a level at which double jumps and difficult spins are required, that natural ability will only take them so far. The core strength and plyometric strength requirements of the sport are significant, and at some point, a skater needs to build strength beyond what he or she naturally has. By completing an off-ice training program at least twice a week, skaters will progress their on-ice skills at a faster pace, and be able to handle the strength demands of jumping, spinning, and longer programs.

Off-Ice Training For Figure Skaters - Why, What, When, and How?

Checking out of a jump involves the contraction of the muscles in the abdominals and the lower back, to resist the rotational force of the jump. Without core stability, a skater will have difficulty maintaining the body over the skate and continue turning past the landing point. Also, to achieve the correct height to perform a jump, a skater requires significant plyometric strength throughout the lower extremity, especially the quads and gluteal muscles. This can only be gained with functional and plyometric strengthening off of the ice. Here are some examples of the attributes a skater needs to succeed in the sport of figure skating....

1) Core strength and stability
Core strength originates from the abdominal and back muscles. These muscles work together to act as a 'control center' for the body's balance and stability. In the sport of figure skating, skaters need exceptionally strong core muscles to maintain balance, check rotation and maintain a tight air position for jumping, control the center of spin rotation, and control the upper body position during footwork, stroking, and crossovers. A skater has to have a strong core to complete double jumps and beyond. Without sufficient core strength, a skater would not maintain consistency of these elements.

2) Balance
Think about how much of skating is done on one foot: almost everything! Some people are blessed with natural balance, but the majority of us need improvement through exercises. There are several factors which affect the sense of balance in our body. First, our vestibular system (the inner ear) helps us sense the body's position while we are moving. Second, the eyes help us detect our surroundings. Third, and most important for skaters, the balance receptors in our feet and lower extremities tell us where our bodies are in relation to the ground.

3) Strength and power
Without muscle strength, a skater would skate very slowly, have small jumps, have shorter and slower spins, and would tire easily in a program and in practice sessions. Strength creates power and can improve endurance, and is the number one necessity for a skater to improve and become consistent. Through exercise, a muscle's fibers become tighter and stronger, and can withstand more repetition for longer durations when asked to contract. Increases in strength can correlate with higher jumps, more stable landings, increased energy output, and increased ability to maintain a number of the spin variations required in the IJS.

4) Flexibility
Spirals, biellmans, donut spins, split jumps, spread eagles.........just to name a few elements that require extraordinary flexibility. Yet it may surprise you which basic elements require a certain muscle length to be performed correctly. Muscle flexibility controls the angle of the knee, hip, and ankle joint on a jump take-off and landing, and a small deficit in muscle length can affect the quality of a jump. Joint position and motion, controlled by the surrounding muscle length, also affects the angle of the joints in the lower extremity during basic stroking, crossovers, spins, and footwork. Each joint in your body needs a balance of flexibility on all sides to move in the proper range of motion. If there is an imbalance of muscle length, a skater may be more prone to injury.

WHAT kind of exercise should a skater be doing?
In the past ten years or so, sports training has progressed from solely using weight machines to using an athlete's body weight as resistance in exercise. Many functional exercises incorporate the use of several muscle groups at one time, instead of exercises focusing on the contraction of a single muscle. How is this more beneficial? In every sport, an athlete moves his or her body in various planes of movement which require several muscles to co-contract at the same time. Each joint requires the strength from several muscles to stabilize it for the action it performs. Functional exercises train the body in these planes of movement to mimic the motions performed in sports. Many sports require a high degree of strength that an athlete may not have naturally; that strength needs to be created through additional training. Figure skating is no exception.....

WHEN should a skater do off-ice training exercises?
Each skater's training routine and requirements are different, depending on the skater's level, schedule, and goals. A national competitor may do off-ice training five days per week, as opposed to a recreational skater's program of one day a week. It is recommended to complete two to four days of off-ice training per week, depending on your level. Even if you choose to complete an off-ice training routine per week, you will show gains in strength, flexibility, and on-ice consistency. You take your training into your own hands, and control your own progress. HOW do I start an off-ice training program?
There are several resources available to guide you through an off-ice training program specific for figure skaters. Sk8Strong has produced DVDs specific to each level of skater, and there are several off-ice training manuals in circulation. It is always recommended to consult with a health professional to evaluate the need for certain exercises and determine if a skater is using proper technique. If you are working with a trainer, make sure that the person has a degree in a health related field, ideally a physical therapy degree. There are also several respectable strength and conditioning certifications available from the NSCA and NASM, such as the 'Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist' and 'Performance Enhancement Specialist' designations. It is important to work with someone qualified, to avoid injury and receive the maximum benefit from your training.

Picture-Perfect Cake Topper Ideas

Even if you're new to cake decorating or an engaged couple on a budget, all you need are some basic cake decorating skills or a little time to shop online. You'll soon have a cake that has everyone wanting to take a picture!

The quickest way to gather ideas for creating a cake topper or to find the perfect one to purchase is to window shop the Internet. Search with phrases such as "funny wedding cake topper," "wedding anniversary cake topper," etc. If you're not sure where to start, here are a few examples:

Figure Skating

· Hand-blown and spun glass cake toppers. Gold highlighted and sparkly or smooth and sleek, many of these are incredibly beautiful. A cake topper depicting a bride and groom ice-skating on top of a snowflake wedding cake is one of our favorites!

· Silver, gold or Swarovski crystal monograms (and numbers for birthdays and anniversaries)

· Sporty cake toppers can depict a bride and groom aboard a sailboat, riding horseback, roaring away in his and her race cars, and... well you get the picture.

· Humorous cake toppers include figures made in cartoonish likenesses of the betrothed and the popular resin figurines with bride and groom in formal wear acting out titles such as "The Tiff" and "Now I Have You."

· Castles - the sky's the limit here! Your castle cake topper can be the top of a sculpted castle cake or a glass, fairy castle. Castle cake toppers are often requested for wedding and birthday cakes, as well as special theme cakes such as renaissance.

· Here's a real attention grabber - a topsy-turvy cake with a cake topper that teeters over the edge. For example, a teapot with dormouse on a Mad Hatter cake or two figurines depicting mountain climbing bride and groom.

· Miniature toys. Here's another simple way to make an amazing cake topper. One idea is to place a rotating doll stand on top of a tiered or stacked birthday cake. Then add a cute toy train, such as Thomas, or a carousel with pretty white horses in pink halters, and your cake will be a big hit

· Polymer clay cake toppers can add a great deal of meaning, fun or both to a cake. You can find companies online that create them in realistic likenesses of the bride and groom sharing an activity (ballroom dancing, golfing, you name it!) Here's a tip for using flowers as a cake topper. Take into consideration the size of the cake. Tiny flowers can be used on a large cake, but if used on their own, they'll be lost. Conversely, large flowers like bird-of-paradise will dwarf a smaller cake. Also, as with any cake topper, consider the style and formality of the event. Daisies are more casual than roses, while stephanotis can swing either way.

Here are a few ideas for flower cake toppers:

· With a bouquet of flowers on top of the cake, arrange a few clusters of flowers here and there on the lower tiers as if a few blossoms have gracefully fallen from the bouquet.

· A gum paste plumeria or orchid lei encircling bride and groom figurines.

· Adorn your cake only with edible (non-poisonous) flowers, being sure that the flowers are also pesticide-free.

Figure Skating Clothing

What you wear on ice depends on your purpose for getting on ice. Will you be joining a competition or taking a figure skating test? Are you there just for recreational figure skating? How many hours do you expect to spend on practice?

When you are on practice, your comfort and safety top the list of priorities in selecting clothing. Your garments should neither be too loose nor too tight, but just right to give you the freedom to move. Too loose is dangerous, because it forms loops that can get dragged on ice or by others, leading to possible harm. When it is too tight, on the other hand, there is no room for your movements, so you effectively limit your motion.

Figure Skating

During practice, you should also make sure that your clothing is able to keep you warm. You might want to try a layered approach, meaning, prefer many thin ones rather than one piece of thick clothing, because the former permits adjustment to the cold. Rather than the sparkly tights used in competitions, try on jogging pants or sweat suits for practice, because these are way more comfortable. If available, nylon windsuits are also nice choices, because they are lightweight, they can keep you warm, are loose enough to allow movement, and they tend to keep water away from your skin. To further keep you warm, always wear hand gloves and socks in practice. These are ideal for the cold, and gloves also assist you when you get up the ice in the event of a fall.

If, however, you are joining a competition, your clothing should be different. It needs to be a little bit more special, because it is one way by which you can capture the audiences and the judges attention. Your comfort gets ranked lower in your priorities. The U.S. Figure Skating Association has set standards for clothing during competitions, and these are the following: 1) modest, dignified clothing, which is appropriate for the competition, 2) full-length trousers for men, 3) clothing with a neckline and sleeves for men, 4) skirts or pants for women that cover the entire hips, 5) prohibition of wearing unitards and bare midriffs, 5) avoidance of excessive decoration like beads and sequins, and if they are used, care should be ensured such that they do not fall off. It does not really matter where you want your figure skating clothing made.

What is more important is that these standards are well understood and followed, to avoid disqualifications and any other untoward event. In selecting the fabric, you might want those which are stretchable, to allow you more room for movement, without tearing your clothing out. Finally, always remember that you are being judged by what you do on ice, rather than what you wear. Thus you can always keep it simple, neat, modest, tidy, and appropriate for your age and what you are going to do.

What you wear is dictated by what you do on the ice. First make certain that it is appropriate for the event, and then take into consideration your comfort while performing.
